TEACHING

I have been working professionally since 2001.  I have worked in many fields of illustration and gained a lot of knowledge about drawing and painting techniques and working for clients. I love to share that knowledge, teach and inspire people, and help them improve their art.

ONLINE TEACHING:

Schoolism is an online platform for art education, with courses taught by industry professionals, most of them working in the movies and games industry. All courses are available with one subscription. Schoolism also offers an option where the student gets personal feedback from the instructor. Check out the schoolism website to find out more.
I teach two courses at schoolism:

Conceptual characters

This course deals with the creative process, developing ideas  and translating these ideas into communicative designs. In the stories we love, characters are actual personalities we can relate to. In this course, we focus on the ideation process of character design. W'll figure out WHO the character is and Why they need to look the way they do. I'll provide techniques for the development of your character, using 'the character designer's toolbox'. This will help you organise your thought process and make sure you'll come up with the best possible concepts.

Expressive characters

In my course, 'Expressive Characters', you'll learn his many techniques in creating characters that speak to your audience, as well as to your idea. Over the nine week course, I will teach ou my techniques in character exaggeration, including how to emphasise proportion, dimensionality, weight, facial expressions, acting, and much more, all in order to give your characters life and make them more believable. You'll learn whether to emphasise feeling, function, or force when trying to develop your character concept, and how further exaggeration can help get this concept across. Each lesson maintains the three steps of observe, emphasise and exaggerate, and each lesson will have you creating new characters for review. If you want to learn more about character creation for illustration and animation, then this is the class for you!

WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES
From time to time I teach workshops and give talks on character design at conventions or at art schools. Please contact me for inquiries.
